Every year around Memorial Day, Mount Moriah is fortunate to receive the attention of some very dedicated individuals who will once again be visting the cemetery to plant flags for veterans and also to do some general cleanup of the place. This year, a large number of people will be converging upon Mount Moriah to pay tribute to the thousands of veterans buried there, along with picking up of trash and debris.

FYI -

If anyone has searched the records at the GSP, please let me know what to expect

I will be going to the Genealogy Society of PA (GSP) in the next two weeks to look at the 3 microfilms they have on Mt. Moriah Cemetery/Burial records. I'm not exactly sure what I will find, but I will make a note of those requests posted already in case I can find the information needed. Also, if you would rather email a request directly, my address is: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Looking for Kee Monument PDF Print E-mail
Written by John Ellingsworth

I had no idea when I started my search that it would be so difficult. It seems I am in the same shoes as many other people.

I am looking for the "Kee" monument. My father passed away 2/05 and I found a note he left for me, in his personal belongings. He asked me to visit the "Kee" monument in Mt Moriah. He did sketch a picture of it. For those of you familiar with the cemetery, it looks like one of the tall monuments with 2 layers on the bottom and a cathedral point on the top. I searched by car today, as best I could, but came up empty. My dad took me to that cemetery on a regular basis as a child. I never really questioned why. I thought it had to do with his job (he was in the monument business). Now I realize it was for a different reason. I am trying to find out what that was and what he wants me to see. If anyone comes across the name "Kee", I would appreciate if you would contact me.

Cemetery Tire Roundup, Saturday, August 27 PDF Print E-mail
Written by John Ellingsworth
Wednesday, 07 July 2004
On Saturday, August 27, I have made arrangements with a local organization to take old tires that can be removed from the cemetery. I will be contacting the cemetery on Monday to see if they would be willing to help in some way. In addition, I am asking others who might be interested in helping to email me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). I will be using my small car to do this, so if you are the owner of a truck that would be VERY helpful.

This is not a full cemetery cleanup but a TIRE REMOVAL only. Tires are not accepted in normal trash removal, hence the specialty of this event.

Search for Missing Woman 8/18/05 PDF Print E-mail

I happened to go out to MT. Moriah today to pick up the deed to my husband's grave. He is buried on the west side of Cobbs Creek Parkway. As I approached , I saw the channel 3 news van and a group of community men who were standing in the way of the entrance to the graveyard.

I asked where the office was and they responded on the other side of the parkway. To make a long story short, when I returned to the West Side after picking up the deed, the channel 3 cameraman was in the woods taking shots and a few of the young men were walking throughtout the graveyard. I asked what was going on, what were they looking for, they responded, the body of a missing pregnant woman. That was about 3:00.

Had I know the state of affairs at Mt. Moriah, I would have buried my husband somewhere else.
