Hello, friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery!

The plan for this weekend is as follows:

Arrive at the cemetery between 8:30 and 9:00 AM and meet at the Cobbs Creek Parkway entrance on the Philadelphia side.

At 9:00, we will disperse and seek out tires. There are a few specific spots in the Philadelphia side of the cemetery that have large piles dumped. Others are scattered throughout, so we will need to disperse and see what we can find. I hope to visit the cemetery today or tomorrow to pinpoint the locations of as many of them in advance as I can.

At approximately 10:30 we will finish up and drop off the tires at 25th & Washington Avenue, where the city has arranged for tires to be dropped off. It shouldn't take too long to pick up the tires, but if it takes a little longer, that is okay. I know most of us do not want to spend our Saturday picking up tires, so we will try to move as quickly as possible. As this opportunity is extended mainly to community groups, we are using the status of Cedar Park Neighbors to do this. If you are dropping off tires you will have to state this to them and give them the CPN ID# 98032.

A friend has been kind enough to let me use his pickup truck, so we should be able to get a large number of tires out of there (hopefully all ofthem). I do not know if this one vehicle will allow us to get them all, but if you do bring your own vehicle for the specific purpose of transporting the old tires, make sure you place a thick blanket on the floor of the vehicle as these tires often have accumulated water in them.

Be sure to wear clothes that you will be comfortable in AND comfortable getting dirty. This is a very dirty job - as I said, the tires are often filled with water and you will want to get that water out before putting them into the vehicle. They also tend to get black dirt onto everything they touch, so you will want to bring gloves.

As an aside, I did contact the Mount Moriah office and left them a message, but they have not returned my call. I will try them again before Saturday, but this event is a go regardless of their involvement.

If you have any questions, please email me.
