One of the Welsh founders of Philadelphia was given permission by William Penn to operate a ferry near where Fairmount Park is today. Probably the father of David - a Surveyor that laid out a lot of PA,and grandfather of Samuel the Mayor during the revolution. http://www.uchs.net/Rosenthal/powvil.html
This William Powell, buried in the yard adjoining the First Baptist Church in La Grange place, located west of Second street, south of Arch street, but later on the sale of the property removed to Mount Moriah Cemetery.
I am a descendant looking for his stone there but the place is enormous, 50+ acres, and can use a face lift. It is really a shame to let people like him - that helped found this country - to rot in their graves in such a shameful way.
