Caleb Anderson was the first child born to William and Elenor Anderson. Caleb was born in 1823 in the Ohio Territories and initially moved to Ohio County, Virginia then to Wetzel County at an undetermined time. He married Mahala Streets at an unknown date. Mahala was the daughter of Allen and Nancy Streets of Maryland. She was born approximately 1837 in Maryland.
Allen Streets was born approximately 1809 and Nancy around 1811.
Caleb and Mahala were enumerated in the 1860 Wetzel County Federal census as being farmers and having a personal and property value of $450.
Four children were known to have been born to Caleb and Mahala Anderson.
Caleb enlisted in Company C of the 7th West Virginia Infantry on 01 November 1861 at Sisterville, Virginia. He enlisted for a period of three years. At an unclear date the company consolidated with Company K and they began using that designation.
Caleb appeared to have taken part in some serious fighting. Records indicate that he was wounded during the battle of Antietam (September 1862) and spent 4 months in a Washington D.C. [sic] as a result.
Later during the war he participated in the fighting at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The 7th fought on the east side of Cemetery Hill [sic] at Gettysburg and took considerable casualties and wounded. Caleb was wounded during the fighting late on the 2d of July but unable to get medical attention until he was taken to Satterlee General Hospital in West Philadelphia on the 11th of July. By this time gangrene had set in and little was able to be done for him. Medical records state that the wound had weakened Caleb to the point that amputation would have killed him. Caleb lingered and died on 25 August 1863 and is buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery in West Philadelphia (Section 200, Lot I, Grave 116)
