Dear Friends of Mt. Moriah Cemetery:

Several months ago, Scribe Video of Philadelphia announced that they were accepting proposals for a series of short documentaries (approx. 8 minutes long) to be made about "precious places" here in Philadelphia. The compiled Precious Places documentary video (actually 15-20 short documentaries) will record the oral histories of 15-20 such "precious places" -- parks, buildings, historic homes, churches, etc. here in Philadelphia that hold the community's memory. Beth Palubinsky, Administrator of Scribe Video, submitted a proposal on behalf of FoMM and others interested in MM; we are happy to announce it was accepted!

Each of the selected documentary groups, including our group, is composed of 5+ members who participate in the making of the film.

During February, March and April, this Mount Moriah team will meet regularly with its two advisors (one, a filmmaker, the other an historian), who have been hired and will be paid by Scribe. These two will teach us how to use a video camera and sound equipment, do historical research, write a script, and compose an oral history. We will develop our work schedule with our two advisors, and jointly decide how frequently we need to meet. Scribe will provide all necessary equipment and facilities.

On Saturday, May 1, all 15-20 teams will shoot their videos concurrently at the various locations throughout Philadelphia. Rain date is Saturday, May 15.

During the summer months, we will edit the videos.

Sometime in the late fall of 2004, the completed and compiled documentaries will be screened in a gala public premiere in Philadelphia.

If you would like to read the proposal Beth wrote (based on some of your excellent suggestions), please let me know by email.

We are hoping that some of you have material relating to Mount Moriah that you would be willing to share with the project. This would include letters, photos, (and most desirable!) archival video material.
