I recently spoke with a representative from Preservation Pennsylvania, "the Commonwealth's only statewide, private non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of historically and architecturally significant properties." PPA was created in 1982 "for the purpose of preserving Pennsylvania's endangered historic landmarks by stimulating public awareness, providing technical advisory and advocacy assistance and, most importantly, by encouraging private investment through its revolving fund." Each year, PPA produces Pennsylvania at Risk, a listing of historic properties and the risks they face. This list is distributed to interested parties on a national level, the result of which is increased awareness of what is happening.
(You can read the 2003 At Risk list here.)

PPA also produces Crisis Handbook A Guide to Community Action, a publication which is a useful read to any of us interested in the future of Mount Moriah.

There is, of course, no guarantee we will be included on the PPA 2004 list, but I am nonetheless encouraged that more and more people are becoming aware of what is happening at Mount Moriah. It is my hope that with increased awareness and interest in Mount Moriah, we will be able to encourage a more open and active approach to the preservation of our troubled cemetery.
